Students Can Win $10,000 for Preparing New Drivers for Roadside Emergencies

JACKSONVILLE, FL / ACCESS Newswire / October 23, 2026 / A flat tire, a dead battery, or an engine that quits on a busy highway can rattle even seasoned drivers. For a newly licensed teen, it can be overwhelming. Priority Tire is offering $10,000 in scholarships to students who can show new drivers how to handle the unexpected and stay safe until help arrives.

The Safe Roads, Strong Futures Scholarship invites students to explore the roadside emergencies that most often catch new drivers off guard, and what it takes to respond with a clear head.

“New drivers spend hours practicing parking and merging, but almost no one rehearses what to do when the car stops working on the shoulder,” said Dimitri Chernyak, President of Priority Tire. “We want students to turn that gap into advice their peers will actually use.”

The competition has three prizes:

  • First place: $5,000
  • Second place: $3,000
  • Third place: $2,000

Essays should be 500-700 words and will be evaluated on writing quality, information accuracy, and originality.

Applicants should discuss the most common roadside emergencies for new drivers, explain the safety steps that matter most when stranded, and identify the supplies every vehicle should carry. Strong submissions will also show how routine maintenance, from tire pressure checks to battery care, can prevent many breakdowns.

“The best essays will read like guidance a friend could follow from the side of the road, not a textbook chapter,” Chernyak added. “Specific steps and real examples stand out.”

Students have until December 1, 2026, to submit their applications digitally through the Priority Tire Scholarship page. Additional topics are available to students interested in earning scholarship funding through various road safety challenges.
