50% of U.S. professionals use advanced AI tools, compared with 37% in the EU, study finds

RIGA, LATVIA, August 6, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — New anonymized data from Ajelix, an agentic AI productivity platform used by 340,000 people worldwide, shows U.S. professionals are more likely than users in the EU to use advanced automation tools to generate scripts, debug code, optimize workflows, and create finished business assets.

Recent Ajelix data shows that U.S. users are more likely to explore its advanced AI capabilities. Half of U.S. users (50.1%) used features such as script generation, debugging, or optimization, compared with 37.3% of European users. Meanwhile, users from the EU were more likely to use AI for formula generation: 66.9% did so, compared with 61.2% of U.S. users.

The analysis, based on behavioral data from 3,000 of Ajelix’s spreadsheet AI users, shows that rather than using AI primarily for basic questions or isolated tasks, American knowledge workers are increasingly relying on it to build finished assets, write and troubleshoot code, and automate repetitive workflows.
Analyzing the recent data, Ajelix found that U.S. professionals are using AI for:

– Script generation – 40.8% of U.S. users, compared to 32.5% of European users
– Script debugging – 13.5% of users in the U.S. and only 6.1% of European users
– Script optimization: 8.6% U.S. users vs. 3.7% EU users
– Combining multiple functionalities – 22.1% U.S. users vs. 10.2% of users in the EU
– Finished outputs such as dashboards or reports: 13.3% of U.S. users, compared to 9.5% EU users

The analysis also looked into how Ajelix users write their prompts. Some regional differences were spotted there as well – the median U.S. prompt contained 15 words, while in Europe, the median prompt was 13 words. Moreover, long prompts were more common among U.S. users: 12.0% exceeded 150 words, compared with 9.7% in Europe. While prompt length is not a measure of AI skill, longer prompts signal increasingly complex tasks users ask AI to perform.

“The strongest signal is how quickly U.S. professionals are expanding the role of AI in their daily work,” said Agnese Jaunosane, COO of Ajelix. “They are not only asking AI for answers. They are giving it context, combining tools, generating code, and turning interactions into completed business assets. This is what the transition from AI assistance to agentic workflows looks like in practice.”

Ajelix findings complement broader research into workplace AI adoption. According to a 2026 study by Gallup, more than 50% of employees use AI in their work, including 30% who are frequent users and apply AI to coding and automation three times more often than occasional AI users. Looking specifically at regional differences, a 2026 Brookings study found that 43% of U.S. workers used AI in their jobs, compared with 32% of European workers, and that U.S. workers spent a larger share of their working hours using AI. These findings, along with the latest Ajelix platform data, suggest that more frequent AI use may also encourage the adoption of more advanced AI features.

Methodology

The Ajelix analysis is based on anonymized, aggregate platform data. Regional user behavior findings compare selected U.S. and EU platform events from February 2026 to June 2026. The analyzed event set includes 16,542 U.S. events and 30,736 EU events, with identical feature availability in both regions.

The spreadsheet AI generator analysis covers February 2025 to February 2026 and includes 1,136 U.S. users with 35,182 generations and 1,848 EU users with 13,458 generations across all 27 EU member states. The analysis includes data patterns from multiple AI tools for Excel and Google Sheets; script generation, explanation, debugging and optimization; and Sheets task tools.

Regional prompt-length findings compare U.S. and EU user messages from February 1 to June 25, 2026, covering 4,668 users and 32,331 user messages, including 11,113 U.S. messages and 21,218 EU messages.

The findings reflect behavior among Ajelix users and should not be interpreted as a definitive measure of all U.S. or EU workers, all AI users, or individual AI skill.
